Thanksgiving - Ben = Not Quite the Family Holiday

Update on Ben: He is actually enjoying basic training. It's no cake-walk, but he respects his drill sergeants and all he's learning.

He has learned how to rock climb and come down using his hands and feet (like a monkey). He has been learning land navigation. They drop them off in locations and have to find their way to certain check-points. Last week he went into the gas chamber. They had to take off their masks and recite the creed. By the time the doors were opened, he said they were crying and snotting everywhere. =) This past week has been training in artillery, which he's really enjoying.

We usually get to talk to him once a week. They had the whole day off today and were served Tgiving dinner by their superiors, with an afternoon of football. He is also able to go to church on Sun. morns. Since he was not allowed to bring anything or can't receive packages, the church of Christ in Ft. Jackson (knowing this) gave him a Bible. He's very excited to have it.

We all definitely felt a hole today. One of his friends suggested my Mom put his picture on the dinner table, and she jumped on that chance. =)Except for the hole, we had a good day with my grandparents and all the dogs running around the house. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Glad to hear that he's doing so well there. I know it was hard having that empty chair, but I am glad he was getting a good dinner and fun day. Happy Thanksgiving!
