From Russia...

Well, I had some lovely girls visiting. Several Russian students exchanged lives for a week with some Alabama teens. They flew into Atlanta and wanted to stay a few days here. My church offered to house them, and I was able to get 3 girls.
I have enjoyed learning more about their culture and seeing them experiencing America for the first time. These children are from 90 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Chilly! In the 1930's Stalin created a political prison camp; the families stayed. I hear the town is still bleak, without much color.
They have been surprised at our roads, the prices at the mall, our "yucky" food, and how hot it is. 60's weather is their summer- I'm putting on my sweater fearing the coming winter months. I had them last week for a couple nights, and again this week before they went home. A funny comment: one fo the girls showed me her manicured hands and asked if she could "delete" her nail polish. =) Last week, we took them all to the mall and the food court for dinner- they wouldn't eat even Chick-fil-A!!! I was discussing the authentic American food I was going to make- tacos, chicken casserole, or hamburgers. I really can cook up some good grub! =) They turned their nose up at the thought of eating ground beef or chicken. We finally decided I'm make them happy with grilled cheese! How disappointing not to be able to share our yummy cuisine! =)

My FIRST camping trip

Well, I have not been camping before in a tent. I had always thought we were supposed to have beanie-weenies in a pot over the fire. Basically, my camping frame of reference has come from movies. Stephanie thought that was crazy!!! So here we go, off to the North Georgia mountains.
I had no idea how full my car would get. Me, the light packer, just brings a little backpack and a sleeping bag. Both Amie and Stephanie are expert campers, so I was in good hands.
Putting up the tent was so easy and so much fun! We had yummy hotdogs and little pies cooked over the fire. But, mind you, fall has come. So sleeping in a freezing tent was... interesting. I finally gave up at 7am and got in my car. We then went hiking and saw some beautiful sights. Thanks for a great first camping trip, girls!

Welcome to the Jungle

Well, it's been a while. I've been busy. My theme for starting the new school year was "Swing into Kindergarten," but I'm thinking I need to change it to "Welcome to the Jungle." I love my babies, but it will be a challenging year. I have more kids that no hablo englais than I've ever had before. I'm just going to have to work extra hard, but I just love a challenge. =) Here are some of my munchkins:
